Book to Movie: City of Bones and Catching Fire

Seeing all this new information coming in about the City of Bones and Catching Fire movies is kind of exciting. Where do I even start? For those of you that have read books and have watched the movies come to life in front of you like if the books had come to life and were talking, you'd know what I'm feeling; those characters and their stories have become a part of you and you wonder how you've managed to live with out them.

First off, it feels like I've been waiting a life time for the Catching Fire movie to come out. I mean, I read the Hunger Games trilogy when I was in seventh and eight grade (6 years ago). I mean. Wow. I remember begging my mom to take me to the book store after school to buy the final installment (which I got at a discounted rate at the time cause it was the first rate, lol. Go past me!).

Anyway, seeing these stories on a movie screen, playing right in front of you, is just an amazing feeling. Especially when it's done right, which thankfully the director of the Hunger Games got it pretty well. It's also pretty phenomenal when you see stills like these coming out.  I mean, just look at them! I have to thank the casting director of the Hunger Games  and Catching Fire. I'll be honest, when I saw Jennifer Lawrence was playing Katniss the first time around, I was kind of iffy about it. I didn't know what to think, but when I saw the first movie trailer, and the teasers I knew that no one else could play Katniss like Jennifer Lawrence. That goes the same for Josh Hutcherson as Peeta and Liam Hemsworth as Gale. Of course, this casting only hypes me up for Catching Fire.

The full cast was finally revealed recently and I'm so happy. The people that they've chosen couldn't be any better. For me, it's still a question of how this movie will be laid out. Will it be like the last where Caesar Flickerman is hosting it like we're watching the actual games again? How will they present the violence in this second installment (which in my opinion the second book is definitely a lot bloodier)? I've seen stills of them in the actual arena, them during the reaping, in the training room with the other tributes, but there's not much else. Unfortunately, we won't know these answers until November 22, but I'm still ecstatic to find out!

I joined the City of Bones fandom a lot later than most. I didn't pick the books up until my Sophomore year, which was almost two years ago. But when I did, I fell in love. Where do I even start with these books? I fell in love with Jace, Clary, and Simon and I tangled myself in their problems, and issues, and worries, and fears. I was hoping Shadowhunters really do walk the Earth protecting us from the demons that are trying to destroy. Again, the casting didn't start settling in until I saw the first trailer. I guess it's just me and having to see the actors in play that makes the casting really set in.

I fell in love with Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace in--what?--two seconds? Though, I'm pretty sure the fandom was dead set with Alex Pettyfer playing the role of Jace. (I mean seriously, there were pictures comparing him to the cover all over the Internet. You think I'm joking?) Lily Collins took the whole length of the trailer to convince me that she was the one to play Clary. I'm not sure why, but she was and I love her just the same. From what I've seen so far, I can tell that this movie is going to be well done. Of course that doesn't mean anything, as we saw from the Book to Movie rendition of Beautiful Creatures. *rubs temples* (If you need to, refer to my Beautiful Creatures MOVIE Follow-Up post.) I do really have high hopes for this movie though. However, we haven't had a previous movie to judge if this one is going to be good or not like we have for Catching Fire. I'm just putting my trust the director will see that things go well.

We'll have to wait until August 23, which isn't that far, let me tell you. I can't wait to see Jace, Clary, Alec, Isabelle, Magnus, and Simon in action for the first time!

Love Triangle NO-NOS

Hello, hola, bonjour, buenos dias!

You know the one thing that irks me sometimes while I'm reading a book? Really bad love triangles. Those ones where the whole book plays out like this:

Girl Main Character: I love you Boy Main Character 1.

Boy MC1: I love you too GMC.

Boy MC2: I love her a lot more than you do.

BMC1: Oh yeah? You wanna fight for that?

BMC2: Let's go!

BMC1 and BMC2 begin to tussel while GMC is watching

GMC: I love BMC1 and BMC2 is my best friend. What is this sudden feeling? A LOVE FOR MY BEST FRIEND?!?! OH MY GOSH. WHICH DO I CHOSE?!?!?!??!?!

Me: . . . No.

There are better ways to present a love triangle without making it cheesy and annoying and your readers get to a point where they hate the main characters and want them to die. . . okay. That might have been a really strong word there. . . Want them to disappear. That's better.

*cough*

Anyway, I can't believe I'm  going to say this. . .

Twilight had a pretty good love triangle. I'm not saying the books were amazing (because frankly, they're not the best), but the love triangle with Bella, Jacob, and Edward was presented decently. Why do I say that? Let's pick apart the love triangle!

The Girl

Bella wasn't completely annoying (other than the fact that the whole book she was asking Edward to bite her . . .) in the sense that she wasn't jumping back and forth between Edward and Jacob the whole time. She knew who she wanted to be with and she made that clear.

The Boys

More like a teenage wolf and a forty million year old vampire, but whatever! You get what I'm talking about.

Edward and Jacob weren't best friends to begin with. In fact, they were already enemies that wanted to rip each other's throats out so that helps with the love triangle. When Edward and Bella started dating, Jacob didn't come around all the time making the moves on Bella. It was only after he found the opportunity to snatch her from Edward did Jacob even try to do anything.

Jacob loves her enough that he doesn't sit around trying to steal her when Edward comes back. Yes, Jacob does get extremely pissed only because of what Edward put her through only to come around showing his face to the same girl he almost killed multiple times. . .

They also decide to work things out instead of having a feud for the rest of their lives that tears the poor girl apart. Again it doesn't work out like this:

BMC1: I don't want you around him anymore. He's not good for you, yada yada yada.

GMC: But I love him. He's my best friend, yada yada yada.

BMC2: Let her do what she wants. You don't control her life.

BMC1: You don't control her either. She can hang around me all she wants.

BMC1 and 2 begin to tussel while GMC watches

GMC: WHICH DO I CHOSE? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I LOVE BMC1, BUT BMC2 IS MY BEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD I CAN'T ABANDON HIM.

Inserts dramatic happening to GMC that makes BMC1 and BMC2 best friends forever and they live happily ever after.

Me: . . . No.

It wouldn't happen like that in real life!

Look at The Hunger Games.  That had an amazing love triangle. Katniss struggled between both, but Collins didn't make it sound annoying or make you want to through the book in a fire and watch it slowly burn because you can't handle the girl fretting over the boys.

Katniss did struggle, but it was a more realistic struggle between her best friend and the boy with the bread.

That's it.

There was jealousy, but never was there any random fighting between the two boys. The two boys were never even friends. There were no dramatic happenings that made them come together and sing Kumbaya. They were jealous of each other and they both hated the other. That never turned into anything physical. No confrontations. No problems.

I hope this helps the world become a better place when the horrible love triangles are written better and don't have whiny GMCs. That's all.

The Hunger Games Dating Show!

M.A.Chase(Hostess): Welcome one and all the The Hunger Games Dating Show. We have Katniss with a few questions in her hand and our two bachelors. Their voices have been disguised, so our wonderful Katniss will not recognize them.

Katniss: Bachelor Number 1, how would you surprise me on my birthday?

B1: I would bake a cake of your favorite flavor and I would ice your name on top.

Katniss: Bachelor Number 2, what would be your idea of a good date?

B2: I don't know. Maybe some hunting here and there, then have dinner.

Katniss: Bachelor Number 1, if you were any item of food what would you be and why?

B1: I would be PEETA bread. Just 'cause PEETA bread tastes good. *smile*

Katniss: Bachelor Number 2, if you could be an animal which would you be and why?

B2: You know I think I would be a tiger, just 'cause tigers are good hunters.

Katniss: Bachelor Number 1, what would be your idea of a good FIRST date?

B1: Maybe go for a moonlit walk through District 12 and maybe even stop by the bakery. I hear they have good PEETA bread.

Katniss: Bachelor Number 2, if I'm late for something because I'm sleeping how would you wake me up?

B2: I would put on some music and gently shake you awake.

M.A.Chase(hostess): Okay, have you chosen your bachelor?

Katniss: Yes, I choose--

M.A.Chase(hostess): Oh! That's all the time we have folks! See you soon on the Hunger Games Dating Show!

My Questions to you the viewers!
  1. Who would you choose Bachelor Number 1 or Bachelor Number 2?
  2. Can you tell which Bachelor is which? (You should cause I made it KINDA obvious :D)

What Would Happen if Mockingjay wasn't released?

During this last week of waiting I'm going to make Hunger Games related posts. :D

Today I'm going to do a "What would happen if..."

I'll start with the title:
What would happen if Mockingjay wasn't released?
The world would be in chaos! There will be Zombies doing their "brain eating" bit. There will be Unicorns running around and vampires will sparkle. It's gunna be a mess.

What would happen if Katniss realizes her feelings are for Gale and not Peeta?
Zombies will take over the world. Gale doesn't belong with Katniss. They had their chance. Now it's Peeta's turn.

What would happen if Snow decides what he did was wrong and commits suicide?
Panem and fricken Earth will cheer, 'cause now they don't have to deal with him anymore.

What would happen if Cinna leaves the Hunger Games and goes to host America's Next Top Model?
The show would get so many more hits, because, c'mon, who DOESN'T love Cinna's awesomeness?

What would happen if District 13 never really existed and Peeta got taken by the Capitol for absolutely no reason?
All Peeta fans will go after Gale and Haymitch because they were the ones who came up with it.

What would happen if Peeta and Gale had a 'thing' going on?
...That's just wrong, how did I think of this?

What would happen if it was a copy of District 12 that was destroyed?
Why would they be heading to District 13 if it wasn't actually destroyed? What would be the fun in not blowing something up. Though, that would mean that Prim and Katniss's mother are safe.

If you have anymore suggestions for the "What would happen if..." just send me an e-mail or leave them in the comments and I'll be more then happy to answer them!
