Book of the Week: Tyger, Tyger/ NaNoWriMo

This is a short post today, as I have quick somethings to mention to you!

This week Tyger, Tyger by Kersten Hamilton is Apple's book of the week!

What does this mean?

For this week you can download Tyger, Tyger for free. Just click this link and you'll be taken to the page! If you haven't seen it, I have a review of Tyger, Tyger. It's my favorite book, and I highly recommend you read the Goblin Wars Trilogy!

NaNoWriMo

In NaNoWriMo news, I have my word count on the right side of my blog! I figured that if I made it public to everyone who reads my blog, I would be more encouraged to try to finish it this year. It also helps that I have a technology class this year. It gives me a whole hour (in the case of this Monday two hours) to write for NaNoWriMo.

I'm working on a Mystery/Suspense story. It's something I've never written before. I hope that I could deliver something decent.

If you want to add me as a writing buddy, find "Roxaslover14" and send me an invite! I'll add anyone back!

Interview with Kersten Hamilton

Here is an interview of Kersten Hamilton (no picture available) author of TYGER, TYGER

1. Why did you choose Irish folklore for your story?
I knew I wanted to wrap a love story up in a dark fairy tale, and the Celtic creatures come very naturally to me.

2. How long did it take from First Draft to having a release date?
Hmmm. I write backwards and forwards and all over the place. I will never have what most people consider a ‘first draft’. I have lots of scenes and emotions that I knit together to make the book. But it happens all at once, very organically, once I start to ‘knit’. ☺ Tyger Tyger took thirty years to think about and six months to get into book form.
I don’t have an agent, so I submit ms on my own. I discussed Tyger Tyger with an editor I like very much before it was completed and she asked to see it as soon as it was done. I sent it to her, and she loved it! I waited four months only to find out that she couldn’t convince her publisher to take the book. It was heart breaking for both of us.
As soon as I knew this, however, I sent it to another editor that I respect deeply. I settled in for a long wait, but it only took her three weeks to make an offer on the book! And as soon as she offered, I knew what the release date would be.
So the answer would be about five months.

3. Did you need to research a lot to get the folklore correct?
Yes! I have loved Celtic lore (especially the stories of Fionn Mac Cumhaill!) all of my life, and I still did massive research before and during my writing. I had to find just the right pieces to fit the story….

4. Are you planning to write a sequel?

I am working hard on the sequel, In the Forest of the Night right now.

5. Can you give us some insight of your writing schedule?

It varies wildly depending on my deadlines. Right now, I have three editors waiting for books so I write every moment that I can. Sometimes that’s five hours a day; sometimes sixteen. I am a little behind on my deadlines because life has been crazy lately!

Thanks for the interview Kersten!

Tyger, Tyger

Hello Everyone! My first review of the day is Tyger, Tyger by Kersten Hamilton :D

Title:Tyger, Tyger
Author: Kersten Hamilton
Release date*(New): 11/15/10
Rating: 5/5
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Book Summary(from Goodreads): Teagan Wylltson's best friend, Abby, dreams that horrifying creatures--goblins, shape-shifters, and beings of unearthly beauty but terrible cruelty--are hunting Teagan. Abby is always coming up with crazy stuff, though, so Teagan isn't worried. Her life isn't in danger. In fact, it's perfect. She's on track for a college scholarship. She has a great job. She's focused on school, work, and her future. No boys, no heartaches, no problems.
Until Finn Mac Cumhaill arrives. Finn's a bit on the unearthly beautiful side himself. He has a killer accent and a knee-weakening smile. And either he's crazy or he's been haunting Abby's dreams, because he's talking about goblins, too . . . and about being The Mac Cumhaill, born to fight all goblin-kind. Finn knows a thing or two about fighting. Which is a very good thing, because this time, Abby's right. The goblins are coming.

Review:

This book by Kersten Hamilton is AMAZING. I'm not even joking.

OK, Chapter One and maybe Chapter two were a little slow, but that's because of the introductions of the MCs. I was actually getting worried there, I thought that maybe this book wasn't as good as people were saying.

Boy, was I wrong.

As soon as Finn Mac Cumhaill stepped through the door, the story became a lot better. Finn has an amazing personality. He's a jokester, but he can be serious, compassionate, but he has a rough side too. You see it all. He's an amazing fighter against...well ANYTHING.

I love how she described one of the minor -I guess I can say that- as Ambercrombie Boy. If the moment wasn't so tense in the book I would have probably started cracking up. This book's minor antagonists also included cat-sídhe. We all know that Julie Kagawa's IRON KING and IRON DAUGHTER included a cat-sídhe as well, but this book gives you a whole new look on them which I liked.

Another thing that was really good was that all of the characters Teagan, Finn, Aiden, Mamieo, were all very strong characters. They all had something to them that made them unique to everyone else. It's good to find books like that.

And, I was very happy with the ending to the book. There was nothing I would do to change it. At all.

I was very happy and this book deserves it's 5/5. Be sure to purchase it in book stores on 11/15/10 because you're going to love it.
